This guide explains how to connect your Google BigQuery warehouse to mParticle for Composable Audiences. The setup process is interactive: as you enter values in the mParticle UI form, the snippets on the right-hand side will update. You’ll copy those commands and run them in BigQuery to configure the necessary resources.

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Step 1: Begin creating the connection in mParticle

  1. In the mParticle UI, go to Data Warehouse > Connections.
    2. \n
  2. Click + Add Connection and select Google BigQuery.
    3. \n
  3. \n

    Enter the required fields:

As you enter these values, the commands displayed on the right-hand side of the mParticle UI will update with the correct details for your environment.

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Step 2: Apply the generated commands in Google Cloud

\n

Follow the numbered instructions shown in the mParticle UI. For each step, copy the provided commands or follow the UI workflow in the Google Cloud Console:

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 1. Create a new service account for mParticle

  1. In the Google Cloud Console, go to IAM & Admin > Service Accounts.
    2. \n
  2. Click Create Service Account.
    3. \n
  3. Enter a name (for example, mparticle-service-account) and an optional description (for example, “Service account for mParticle”).
    4. \n
  4. Click Create and Continue, then finish the creation wizard.

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 2. Grant BigQuery permissions to the service account

  1. In the Grant this service account access to project section, click Select a role.
    2. \n
  2. Search for and select BigQuery Job User.
    3. \n
  3. Click Continue and Done to create the service account.

\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 3. Create and download a service account key

  1. In the Service Accounts list, click your newly created account.
    2. \n
  2. Go to the Keys tab and click Add Key > Create new key.
    3. \n
  3. Select JSON as the key type and click Create.
    4. \n
  4. The JSON key file will download automatically to your computer. Keep this file secure — you’ll upload it in the mParticle connection form.

\n

Use the SQL snippets generated in the mParticle UI to give the service account read access to the datasets and tables you plan to use. Replace placeholders with your dataset ID, table name, and service account email.

Audiences require a dedicated schema named mparticle to store temporary and intermediate results. Run the generated commands to create this dataset (if it doesn’t exist) and grant full read/write access to the service account:
